Autumn Hunter Chase Schedule

Autumn Hunter Chase Schedule

The Autumn 2017 season will see three hunter chases set to be run, with the two Autumn races remaining the same at Down Royal and Limerick while Wexford’s annual hunter chase has been moved to Cork.

The first hunter chase of the season will be held at Cork on November 19th and is a winner’s contest, whilst both the races at Down Royal and Limerick will be staged over the Christmas period.

The champion point-to-point mare from last season, Maple Mons, (pictured) was the winner of last season's hunter chase at Wexford before going on to win a further six point-to-points as well as the hunter chase at Down Royal on St. Patricks Day followed by a win in the Joseph O’Reilly hunter chase at Fairyhouse during Easter.

Another award winner from last season, Foxrock, who was crowned the champion hunter chaser took the traditional St. Stephens day race at Down Royal for Katie and Ted Walsh and remained unbeaten in a further three hunter chases over the spring.

The Michael Barry-trained Sweet As A Nut, who was one of  eight Irish runners to have lined up in the Cheltenham Foxhunters in March, was an impressive 15 length winner of the maiden hunter chase at Limerick which takes place on the second day of their four-day Festival.
