Grade 1 Winner Gilgamboa Gets a Hunter Cert

Grade 1 Winner Gilgamboa Gets a Hunter Cert

Gilgamboa, who won the Grade one Ryanair Gold Cup Novice chase at Fairyhouse in April 2015, is amongst the headline horses in this week’s Hunter Certificate list as the countdown to the new season continues.

The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old has won six races on the track which includes a Grade one and two chase and a Grade B hurdle as well as four placed efforts in graded contests. The son of Westerner rose to a career high mark of 159 over fences after finishing fourth in the 2016 Aintree Grand National under Robbie Power. The Enda Bolger-trained gelding is one of nine horses that received a hunter certificate for the Co.Limerick based handler.

Gilgamboa will be joined by stable companion On The Fringe (pictured) who’s last run was at Punchestown in April in the Champion Hunters chase. The twelve-time winner has been a stalwart for his connections having won both the foxhunters at the Cheltenham festival and Aintree in 2015 and 2016.

Staker Wallace, who provided Derek O’Connor with his 1100th point-to-point winner at Kilfeacle last season is another representative from the Enda Bolger and JP McManus partnership with his most recent run seeing him finish third to Foxrock in the Leopardstown Inn hunter chase in February.

The important closing dates for Hunter Certs which apply to owners and trainers of horses who may be running in the opening weeks of the season are below:
