Potters Point leads home Irish Pointers in Kerry National

Potters Point leads home Irish Pointers in Kerry National

or the third year in a row, the Kerry National has been won by a graduate of Irish Point-to-Point racing, with Potters Point providing back-to-back victories in the race for Lisa O’Neill, Gordon Elliot and Gigginstown House Stud.

Given an excellent ride by amateur Lisa O’Neill, the son of Robin Des Champs travelled well throughout and jumped to front after the penultimate fence where the pair were forced to battle hard to the line to see off the strong challenge of Arkwrisht and Andrew Ring to run out the half-length winner of the €175,000 Grade A contest.

The seven-year-old was runner-up in his four-year-old maiden at Monksgrange under Barry O’Neill in 2014 for Colin Bowe before being sold at the Brightwells Cheltenham sale for £260,000.

A four-time winner on the track, Potters Point most recent run was a winning one where he claimed a 2m6f chase at Tramore on the 18th August having entered the race off the back of a runner-up effort at Galway in a Grade 3 novice chase when he finished five lengths behind former pointer Rathvinden.

Lisa has had a very successfull twelve months since her win on Wrath Of Titans in the 2016 Kerry National in which she enjoyed her first Cheltenham festival win on Tiger Roll in the JT McNamara Amateur Chase as well as success at the Fairyhouse Easter festival, the Punchestown festival and the Ladies Derby at the Curragh.
