Derek O'Connor rode three winners with the Galwegian signing off aboard Denis Ahern's My Boy Paddy in the six-year-old geldings' maiden. My Boy Paddy, a fine third on his previous start at Killeagh, asserted from the second last to beat Poplebouchon by three lengths.
The in-form Ahern said: "This horse is owned and bred by my sister Margaret Lucey. We will be dedicating the win to Margaret's father-in-law John Lucey died last week. My Boy Paddy is a lovely horse and we also have his five-year-old half-brother by Beneficial, who will be running in a couple of weeks time. "
My Boy Paddy is the first produce out of the Roselier-sired mare Securon Rose, now a 14-year-old. She was a half-sister to two winners in Barrys Ark and Bramblehill-Beauty. Barrys Ark won a bumper and a hurdle whilst the mare Bramblehill-Beauty similarly landed a bumper and a hurdle. In turn, their dam Hand Me Down won twice over hurdles in Britain, the daughter of Cheval also capturing a point-to-point. Hand Me Down's brother Black Orchid won a six races whilst he was also placed third in a listed chase whilst the pair's dam Moidora's Ring (by Moidore) obliged in a point in the 1960s.
