Irish Pointers headline Goffs UK Spring sale

Irish point-to-pointers dominated day one of the Goffs UK Spring HIT/P2P Sale at Doncaster and were responsible for five of the eight lots which fetched six-figure sums on the day.

The afternoon’s Select P2P/Form Horse Session featured a number of top-class entries taken over the last two weeks and was topped by Donal Coffey’s debut winning Irish Pointer Ask For Glory (Lot 409) who was sold to Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls for £280,000.

Owner Roger Brookhouse went to £150,000 to secure Sam Curling’s debut Bumper winner Raya Time (Lot 423). The gelding won the same Bumper as the Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner Summerville Boy who Brookhouse purchased from this session last year.

Other lots to feature included Denis Murphy’s Irish Pointer Gameface (Lot 396) who was bought by Kieran McManus for £145,000, Paurick O'Connor Racing’s Irish Pointer Alnadam (Lot 406) who was knocked down to Tom Malone for £130,000 and Pat Doyle’s Miss Batten.

The daughter of Vinnie Roe, who only won her maiden at Necarne on Friday, was bought by Rathmore Stud for £115,000, securing the top price on the day for a mare.

Wednesday’s session also offered the annual Million In Mind Dispersal, a highlight of the Spring Sale every year, which was topped by the dual winning Hurdler Canelo (Lot 343) who sold to Kieran McManus for £110,000.

The second and final day of the Goffs UK Spring HIT/P2P Sale will commence tomorrow at 10am and will offer 275 entries.
