The Route hunt have held point-to-point meetings at a number of venues since the 1930’s, before returning to their traditional picturesque venue of Portrush in 2016.

The charming town of Portrush is a holiday destination for many people, boosting the Famous Barry's amusements. It is also near the Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Bushmills Distillery to name a few places of interest.

Portrush is also an ideal spot to enjoy a picnic while you enjoy the racing. Picnic benches can also be found around the parade ring and catering areas.

The hard working committee members also supply a delicious selection of homemade cakes, buns and sandwiches which are for sale in the food tent beside the parade ring. There will also be an ice-cream van in attendance.

If racegoers would like something a little stronger to keep you warm during your days racing, alcohol can be purchased in the on-course bar.

The North Kerry Harriers host their annual point-to-point at Ballybeggan Racecourse, Tralee and received a bumper entry of 197.

Point-to-point secretary Bernadette Hanrahan commented; "We are all set for Saturday. We received a fantastic entry of 197 so there will be a great days racing.

“Along with the great racing, there will be a Dog Show, Puppet Show, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Pony Rides, food stalls, Craft Stalls and a bar ensuring there is something for all of the family.

“There will be a pony race, giving the up and coming stars of the future the opportunity to hone their skills. Entries can be made on the day with Frankie Ward.

“Also organised is a most appropriately dressed Lady & Gent kindly sponsored by Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa, Nádúr Spa Ballygarry House & The Rose Hotel and then after the last race there will be a band playing with a live DJ.

Clonakilty’s annual Point-to-Point races are held on historic Inchydoney Island on the lands of Leslie & Emily Beamish where race goers can get close to the action, while having the added attraction of overlooking Clonakilty Bay.

The site is positioned on a hill, with the bookies situated adjacent to the track, making it easy to bet without missing out on the excitement of watching your favourite in full flight.

Inchydoney Island is situated just outside the colourful heritage town of Clonakilty and is surrounded by some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery.

Food on the day will be provided by outside caterers who will have tasty burgers, sausages, and chips with tea, coffee and soft drinks on the day.

The venue lends itself very well to family picnics when the weather is favourable.

The Four Star Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa is just a stone's throw from the racecourse, which also has the Gulfstream Restaurant. Boosting panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Coast, The Gulfstream Restaurant is the perfect post racing dinner spot.
