RACE | New Dates for Schooling Courses


RACE are running Schooling Progression courses again this year with Derek O’Connor.

This course is aimed at those who hold an A3 licence and would like to improve their race riding skills.
Training includes;


- 1 Day Training Course
- Delivered at RACE in association with leading amateur rider, Derek O’Connor
- 3 lots schooling over fences and hurdles at RACE and on the Curragh Schooling Grounds
- Racehorse simulator coaching
- Video analysis of riding technique
- Introduction to fitness
- Aimed at A3 licence holders to improve technical riding skills over obstacles

This course remains very popular with excellent feedback and visible results on the point-to-point field.  One participant on the course rode 3 winners from 36 rides last season having attended the course.

Another jockey who rides for Colin Bowe increased his winners from five the previous season to 12 this season, following completion of the course.

A number of professional jockeys have noted their interest in attending, although the course is aimed at amateur jockeys at present.  Other trainers whose jockeys have attended include Willie Mullins, Jessica Harrington and Charles O’Brien.

The courses are one day courses are free of charge in conjunction with RACE and CARE.

There is also a Schooling Preparation Course available at RACE.

This is aimed at those planning to take out an A3 licence, either hoping to upgrade an A1 licence or applying straight for an A3 licence.

Candidates will have solid racehorse riding skills but require additional help with their skills over hurdles and fences.

Training will include;
-    1 Day training delivered at RACE
-    School over hurdles and fences
-    Racehorse simulator coaching
-    Video analysis of riding technique
-    Introduction to fitness
-    Improve skills and confidence for riding in point-to-points, on the track and schooling at home.

Barry Walsh and Paddy Flood will provide the coaching for this course.

This course was very well received on its induction by riders who lacked experience on schooling over jumps and therefore benefitted tremendously from the training.

Latest P2P Fixture Updates

The Ballymacad Hunts fixture will now take place at Tatterslls, there will be a second fixture at Loughanmore in April, whilst Taylorstown has been rescheduled for May 18th.
