Last month’s Liscarroll point-to-point was centre stage in Friday evening’s episode of Nationwide on RTÉ Television.
The popular programme, which features stories from across the country, highlighted point-to-point racing, which the programme makers describe as one of ‘Ireland’s hidden gems’.
Presenter Mary Kennedy travelled to North Cork for the ever-popular Liscarroll point-to-point, which in 2018 played host to President Michael D. Higgins, and she spoke to many of the volunteer committee members, whose work and dedication has enabled the event to become the success that it is.
As well as taking in the sights and sounds of her day at the point-to-point and all that was on offer for racegoers, Mary Kennedy also spoke with leading point-to-point rider Derek O’Connor.
It is timely that the feature was broadcast on Friday evening, just 24 hours after the Goffs UK Aintree sale, where the Liscarroll four-year-old maiden took top billing.
The race winner Pappa Tango Charly was sold by Colin Bowe for £440,000, with the two placed horses also realising six-figure sums.
Donnchadh Doyle’s runner-up Big Bresil sold for £170,000, whilst Matt Collins’ Meyer Lansky made £105,000.
Originally broadcast on RTÉ One on Friday April 5th, it is available to watch on-demand on the RTÉ Player, by clicking here.
