UK Point-to-Point Round Up | 18th & 19th May

Former Irish point-to-pointers continued to perform in UK points as the season nears an end. Irish horses accounted for 11 of last weekend UK pointing winners. We take a closer look below at where some of these stand out winners started off their racing careers.

BREDWARDINE

PATRICKTOM BORU
 
The former Irish pointer, Patricktom Boru, ran out a seven-length winner in the six-runner ladies open at Bredwardine for Roger Willcox. The son of Brian Boru has been unlucky this spring finishing second on his last three starts. Patrick Flynn started the gelding off in Irish point-to-points back in 2011 running just four times before transitioning to the track. Over the years, the bay recorded numerous placings and three wins under rules in the UK before returning to pointing.  
 
HEXHAM 

MATTS COMMISSION
 
The Jack Teal-trained Matts Commission scored success in the conditions race on Saturday by four lengths marking the six-year-olds fifth UK pointing victory. The son of Beneficial ran three times in Irish points back in 2017 for owner/handler John Halley before going pointing in the UK.

EDGCOTE 

KING OF THE CLOTHE
 
King of The Clothe recorded victory once again when securing success in the mixed open at Edgecote on Sunday for Tom Ellis. Owned by The Oak Partnership, this seven-year-old gelding has enjoyed a hugely successful season pointing with a strike rate of 66% recording 4 wins and a second from six starts. Donnchadh Doyle initially trained the son of Milan in Irish points where he recorded numerous placings. 
 
TABLEY 

CLOUDY JOKER  
 
The conditions race at Tabley went to the Irish point graduate Cloudy Joker for trainer Max Comley. Running out and eight length winner here, the success marked the geldings debut win in UK points. Originally handled by Richard Brabazon, the son of Cloudings won his Irish point at the third time of asking before transitioning to the track in the UK. Cloudy Joker found success on five occasions there for Donald McCain and earned over £44,000 in prize money before returning to pointing this season.
