Video Archives | Ballymena October 2001

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  The next year we are adding videos from is the 2001 season.

The Mid Antrims point-to-point meeting at Ballymena is the next meeting to be added to our video archives.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

The opening race at the Mid-Antrim Hunts point-to-point fixture at Ballymena when the way of Cedar Key and William Rankin when running out a 20-length victory of the confined Hunt Race.

Leo Gracey was in the winner’s enclosure after claiming the winners of one contest aboard Lantaur Lad.

Ten Poundsworth supplied Leo Gracey with his second winner of the afternoon when coming home in front of the open lightweight. The son of Orchestra was decent horse on track when winning the Raymond Smith Memorial Hunters Chase and a Grade 3 Chase at Leopardstown for trainer George Stewart.

Rowdy Nights and Liam Lennon were impressive winners of the mares open when staying on well for a 20-length victory over Misneach.

Liam Lennon didn’t have to wait long to register his second winner of the afternoon when winning the four and five-year-old maiden aboard Ballyconnell. This fellow went on to win three in a row for Wilson Dennison impressively before going to D K Weld for Robert Sinclair. Hume Castle who finished second also went on to have a success career under rules when winning a hurdle and five chases for trainer Jessica Harrington.

It was a treble on the day for Leo Gracey after taking the concluding six-year-old and upwards maiden aboard Joint Authority.
