With a bumper entry of 173 for the Carlow Farmers point-to-point at Borris House on Sunday, the time of the first race has been brought forward to 11 o’clock. The four-year-old geldings maiden attracted the largest entry with 43 entered.

Aidan Fitzgerald could get local connections off to a good start here as his WEST BALBOA ran a big race on her debut at Dromahane in the same maiden he sent out the talented Queens Brook a year earlier. With that opening effort under her belt she would look the one to beat here. Inchagoill Lady is the obvious alternative to the selection as she comes from a family that connections know well and she went close on her debut to finish second at Tinahely, beaten just three lengths earlier this month. Doyen La Lutte and Ramble West are likely next best.

CHAMP IS REAL came from behind and was arguably finishing best of all at Knockmullen House when a close third earlier last month and he could step up to take this on a card that connections enjoyed particular success at last year. Onhundredpercent is back following a slight break after falling at the last in Ballingarry, whilst Ballykeel and Brorson are others for the shortlist among a big entry.

The Tattersalls runner-up EYRE SQUARE has added track form to her name having finished placed in the mares point-to-point bumper at Fairyhouse recently and the switch back between the flags here should be rewarded. Miss Mcgugen ran with plenty of promise at Lisronagh before racing keenly in the testing conditions at Tinahely and may be better suited here, whilst Current Mood who has come back from an absence and has been running well with term, whilst Clonmoyle and Fireball Breeze have both made the placings on their latest outings.

KILBEG KING would look the obvious choice for this as he beat two subsequent winners when finishing second on his one and only start at Tinahely back in January. His conqueror on that occasion, Folcano, was sold for a six-figure price subsequently and ran with credit on his stable debut at Navan last weekend to advertise the form. Of those that we have seen more recently, Onagatheringstorm, Regal Milan and Tinder Dan all have solid profiles.

Despite this being his first start in open company, MR MANTILLA (pictured above) has impressed in his rise through the ranks and could continue that upward trajectory here. Some Are Lucky is a tough performer in the division to oppose and he picked up his second success of the season at Turtulla earlier this month, whilst Marinero, Eddies Miracle, and Rewritetherules are other leading horses in the open division. Of the other new recruits to this sphere, Crosshue Boy has a rating of 137 over fences whilst Walk To Freedom is a 142-rated hurdler.

TRUCKERS TANGLE stands out here on his return to point-to-point action as he finished placed under rules no fewer than six times for Alexandra Dunn and that track form would look to be good enough to take a race like this, with Gonaway perhaps the main danger on his run against Fanamix at Tattersalls.
