Complete Sizing returns to winning ways at Clonmel

Complete Sizing returned to the winner’s enclosure for the first time in over two years as he ran out the six-length winner of the Racing Again on March 9th Maiden Hunter Chase at Clonmel on Thursday.

Ridden with notable patience by Jamie Codd, Jim Dreaper’s nine-year-old, who had been sent off as a 15/2 shot, was still in eighth position jumping the third-last fence, however once introduced into the race travelling well on the extreme outside of the chase track, he soon became a big challenger.

Tracking the always prominent Clounts Glory to the penultimate fence, Codd sent his mount on after jumping that obstacle and with the eventual runner-up and twice runner-up at the venue, Saint Benedict, making an error at obstacle, he was able to gain the initiative before going on to prevail by six lengths.

Clounts Glory ran a big race to take the third spot, whilst Pyrios ran respectably to claim fourth.

The victory for Codd and Complete Sizing was notable as the pair had suffered a heavy fall in a similar race at the Tipperary venue 13 months earlier.

Complete Sizing is a horse that was previously held in quite high regard by connections having previously sported the colours of the late Alan Potts, and now owned by the winning trainer, it was his first success since claiming a winner-of-three contest at Corbeagh House, a win which had completed a winning run of four successes in his opening four races.

Following the success, the winning trainer’s son Tom indicated that connections would look for another hunter chase in the coming weeks, however with soft ground a requirement, conditions would dictate where he runs next.
