SUMMARY
- The 2000 season will always and should always be remembered for one thing-The Record. Adrian Maguire rode 38 winners in 1991 for the powerful Michael Hourigan yard while Enda Bolger rode 48 winners in 1994 with some very decent sorts winning three and four races to aid his cause. John Thomas McNamara had neither a four time or a three time winner in totaling 52 winners.
- In fact he rode 42 maiden winners and 46 different horses in achieving a milestone for the sport and with the onset of a new autumn season we are unlikely to see anything to compare to it again. It was simply a wonderful achievement especially considering his better supporters were slow into stride and by the end of February he had only 9 winners ridden but five hat tricks and three four timers saw a run of wins beyond anything we had seen before.
- Davy Russell was the unfortunate loser as his total of 36 would have won most titles but he had to give best. Nonetheless he took the Novice title for the second time and Liz Doyle was the leading lady for the first time.
- Padge Berry took the personality award having given the sport plenty of profile with his endless supply of decent horses from his south east base.
- Newcomers to the list of winning riders included J.D.Moore who had already ridden as a flat rider and as a point to point rider in England with success. Sam Curling also rode his first winner as did Danny Howard but both of these were to make the switch to the paid ranks in time.
- There was plenty of new quality on show of the equine sort also with Valley Henry, Truckers Tavern, Joe Blake & Big And Bold among the class of 2000.
- Beausheram, Winning Dream & Instant Queen also made their mark in 2000.
