SUMMARY


• J.J. Gordon denies Billy (W.A) McLernon three titles in a row when outscoring the reigning title holder by just two winners.
• Eddie Harty fares well with seven winners.
• F. Flood is another to feature prominently. Has subsequently gone on to train many top winners in Newhall & Ebony Jane among others.
• M. Berry returns with four winners. Brother of Padge Berry based in the South East.
• J.W. Boyers scores two and went on to train a County Hurdle winner at Cheltenham, A Galway Plate winner among others. Trained High Diver, Artistic Prince & Kilcoleman.
• A. Lillingston scores one winner. He went on to ride 37 more winners to 1964. He also won a Champion Hurdle on Winning Fair.
• J.R. Cox who subsequently trained Atone among many other winners gets on the scoreboard with one winner
• Midland rider and Turf Club Steward P.O’Roarke also scores one
• Mullingar trainer Cecil Ross scores on winner and before retrining added 43 more.
• F. Fitzimons snr also features and his son Frankie is now a popular Northerner officiating at many point to points.

SUMMARY

• Brian McLernon takes his first and only title to follow in the footsteps of his brother Bill(W.A) who at this stage had three to his name.
• Brian went through the card at the Limerick Foxhounds fixture scoring in all five races. Icepond, Black and Amber, Kind Approach, Lady Urrin & Shilean the successful quintet.
• Willie Rooney finishes runner up and keeps clocking up the winners adding 14 this campaign.
• Helen Bryce-Smyth who most likely had ridden winners before this scores five. Her overall total finishes in excess of 100 winners making her one of the leading lady point to point riders of all time riding such horses as Still William.
• K.O’Donnell is a force in the Kilkenny region. On the 22nd February 1957 he went through the card at Bennettsbridge riding all five winners
• J.R. Craigie scores four and subsequently joins the turf club.
• J.R. Bryce-Smyth father of Helen and trainer of Spittin Image to take a Galway Plate in 1977 registers one winner
• J.E. Kiely gets among the winners and has since become a most respected trainer of Liss A Paorigh & Black Queen among many others.
• A horse called Duplicator won at Gort at the Galway Blazers meet ridden by a certain T. Costello
