SUMMARY

• The 1960 season began on 27th January at Carrigtwohill and finishes on the 29th April with the Rakes Of Mallow meet in Mallow
• Even with a short season Willie Rooney manages to score a very healthy eighteen winners.
• Helen Bryce-Smyth is the leading lady with nine winners with Ann Rooney (later Ferris) scoring six.
• G.R. Dunwoody scores once. His son Richard would become one of the finest National Hunt riders of all time.
• One winner also for P.P. Hogan who although now not riding so many winners was about to take the training ranks by storm with his string which included the finest pointers of all time Under Way, Ah Whist, No Other Way, Vulelek etc.

SUMMARY

• 1961 only got going in February on the 1st February at Bandon (Carbery Foxhounds. The final fixture held by the Rakes Of Mallow on the 28th April
• W.A. McLernon takes his fourth title with a record equaling 23 winners. G.Hogan also scored 23 back in 1955.
• Miss A Rooney comes out top of the ladies pile with 11 winners.
• Miss F Fitzgibbons (later Cash) scores eight times and has since become the winningmost rider in the Champion Hunter class at the RDS in recent years
• G. Rooney a son of Wille and brother of Ann & Rosemary scores four winners. However he was later tragically killed in a fall at home
• M .Hely-Hutchinson rides one winner. He is one of the few fortunates to ride the great Arkle in a race.

SUMMARY

• 1962 begins on the 31st January at Carrigtwohill and finishes on the 30th April with the West Waterford meet at Lismore
• Northern based rider R.R. Bamber takes the title with a haul of 14 winners only two ahead of J.Cash.
• On Wed 25th April at the Golden Vale fixture at the Golden Vale a horse called Some Prince won the Open Heavyweight race under 13st 3lbs under owner/trainer D.A.Pim

SUMMARY

• This was a particularly short season beginning on Monday 11th February with the Dungarvan Harrierrs at Killossera and finishing on Monday the 29th April with the United Foxhounds at Carrigtwohill.
• A tie for the title between B. O’Brien and C. Vaughan. The latter went on to take the firs three titles of the seventies
• Current Turf Club steward Capt S H Walford gets three winners in ’63.
• Six winners for W.P. Browne who went on to take the Amateur Handicap at Galway in 1965 on Troubled Sole

SUMMARY


• The season begins to get longer in ’64 with Thursday the 30th January seeing the Limericks get things underway at Patrickswell while the final fixture was Saturday the 9th May with the Mid Antrim fixture at Ballymena.
• W.A. McLernon takes his fifth title although the winning total of 13 is low in comparison to other years where the season was shorter.
• J.R.H. Fowler shows on the list with six winners. He went on to ride 75 winners into the early eighties before training many winners including Maiden Of Money to win an Irish National
• W.Patton father of Northern Champion in ’99 Robert scores twice.
• Limerick trainer A. McNamara also scores once.

• R.R. Bamber takes his second title following his first one in ’62 but takes 19 winners on this occasion.
• Miss J Moore shows on the table with five winners. She went on to take over 20 more including some for Tom Costello. Her son Derek O’Connor takes the Novice titles in 2002 & 2003
