SUMMARY
• 1980 saw the title go to John Queally for the first time. Queally’s 25 winners saw him six clear of Nicky Dee on 19.
• Although not recognized by any award Rosemary Stewart was the leading lady with four winners while Ros Easom finished with 4.
• The 1980 season began on February 3rd with the Scarteen fixture at Knocklong.
• 1980 was a special year for first winners with three future Champions getting off the mark within a period of just over a month.
• On the 16th March at Eyrecourt a young Tom Costello won the four & five year old maiden on a horse called Youghal by three lengths owned by his father to get his career away
• On Tuesday 8th April Paddy Graffin took a consolation race on George Blairs Float On at the route fixture in Ballymoney and the pair went in again on the Saturday at Loughbrickland
• On Sunday 27th April Enda Bolger rode his first winner on Super Dub at the Wexford Foxhounds fixture at Gowran Racecourse. It was an Open Nomination race and Super Dub carried 13st 4lbs
• On Sunday 18th May Anthony Powell registered his first winner when J Campions Aughnagreine under 12st 7lbs won the Open at The Ward Union Fixture at Fairyhouse. This was the final meeting held in 1980
