SUMMARY

•    Dermot Costello took his first overall award in 1989 with 31 winners. The ’88 Champion John Berry was runner up with 27 while two further adrift and third yet again was Pat Healy
•    Healy took the Munster title for the second time however
•    Ian Buchanan scored twice taking the Northern and the Novice award
•    Carmel Connaughton took the ladies award outright. This was her fifth title and it was secured with 4 winners
•    The Joseph O’Reilly went to P P Hogan and Enda Bolger with No Other Way scoring by ten lengths
•    The Champion Hunter Chase went to the Roger Hurley partnered Ah Whist again for P P Hogan and to complete the maestros dominance Howyanow and Which Way Now were also successful at the festival
•    First winners threw up some interesting names most notably Aidan O’Brien.
•    Solicitor Andrew Coonan, Professional Francis Flood and Northern Champion ’93 John Bright all got off the mark in 1989
