TRACK GUIDE

Courtown is one of the newest tracks to join the point-to-point calendar, having hosted a first fixture in April 2017 and it is a gently undulating course of over one mile in circumference, with five fences jumped on each circuit.

Runners begin on the entrance to the back straight, from where they have a short run to the first of two fences located along this part of the course. Runners continue to race along the largely flat back straight, before beginning to take the long gently curving left-handed bend into the home straight. The final part of that long bend is taken on quite a notable uphill climb, which levels out as they jump fence three.

In total, there are three evenly spread out fences in the home straight, with a left-handed elbow following after the second of them, before the runners arrive at fence five, which also acts as the final fence. There is a decent run-in to the winning post, before the runners race slightly downhill into the bottom bend around the parade ring. There is a further downhill section early in the back straight, before racing passed their starting point.

BARRY O'NEILL

I think that Courtown rides as a fair track. The committee have done a very good job to get it as good as it is and you have to give them real credit for that.

If you can get your position going out on the final circuit to be close enough turning in at the bottom bend, you will have a fair shot going out over the last three fences.

If you are there at that bend and you are good enough, you will run your race.
