In-form Barron looking to wrap up second in Gentlemens League

Limerick rider Ray Barron is enjoying his best start to a point-to-point season for some time as he prepares to represent Ireland for the final time in the concluding leg of this year’s 2018 Gentlemen’s League Fegentri Championship by Haras du Lion which takes place on Sunday.

A winner in each of the opening three months of the season have left him with a notable 21% strike rate this season, including two winners for one of his principal supporters Enda Bolger aboard Different Spot and Saint Benedict. That latter success coming in a four-year-old maiden at Rathcannon.

Barron goes into Sunday’s series finale, which takes place on the International point-to-point card at Barbury Castle in England, fresh from his third winner of the season, which was recorded aboard Jack Bennett’s Leave My Alone in the five-year-old and upwards mares’ maiden at Boulta last Sunday.

Trailing series leader Guillaume Viel by 16 points, it is the French representative who is in pole position to join Ireland’s Dean Sinnott, in becoming the second winner of the Gentlemen’s League.

His title hopes having been bolstered by success in the latest and penultimate round of the pan-European challenge at Compiegne in his home country.

Barron will be hoping to wrap-up his second position, as he lies 14 points clear of the British representative Noel George in third, with the Czech Republic’s Michal Miksovsky in fourth.
