Envoi Allen lands Grade 1 Champion Bumper

Envoi Allen justified favouritism to land the Weatherbys Champion Grade 1 Bumper in the hands of Jamie Codd.

The Gordon Elliott trained individual had to work hard in the closing stages to see off fellow market principle Blue Sari and Barry Geraghty.

There was a slow pace early on but Codd settled his mount on the outside and made smooth progress to lead into straight.

The gelding who carried the colours of Cheveley Park Stud has now won four national hunt flat races including a Listed and Grade 2 event.

The five-year-old started his career between the flags when winning his point-to-point maiden at Ballinaboola for handler Colin Bowe in the familiar colours of Walter Connors.

He was subsequently sold at the Tattersalls Cheltenham sale for £400,000.

This was Jamie Codd's second Festival winner of the week having guided Le Breuil to victory in the four mile at Cheltenham on Tuesday for trainer Ben Pauling.
