Rewritetherules lands Down Royal Hunters Chase

The John ‘Shark’ Hanlon trained Rewritetherules caused somewhat of an upset when running out a two length winner of the Club Mixers Hunters Chase at Down Royal.

The son of Jeremy who was given a patient ride by Tom Hamilton took up the lead approaching the final fence and kept on gamely to deny Winged Leader on the run-in.

The five-year-old gelding joined Hanlon after a stint between the flags for handler Donnchadh Doyle. The Dermot O’Rourke owned individual was last seen at Gowran Park in March after finished sixth Minella Melody.

The short-priced favourite Complete Sizing who finished fourth was found to lame behind post-race.

Following the race Shark Hanlon said: "He's a 17hh horse. I ran him in a bumper in Gowran and I thought he couldn't get beaten - I ran him the wrong way, I made the running and they all took him on.

"He came out of Donnachadh Doyle's, a great yard to buy a horse out of. I rang Donnachadh before the race and I said to him 'I'm gonna drop this fellow last' and he said that was the thing to do with him.

"He'd stay three miles every day of the week. He's in again on Thursday but we'll see how we come out of the race, he might run again on Thursday in Tipperary.

"He's a good ground horse and he's a gorgeous horse. He's a staying chaser and the good thing about him is that you can drop him out. He's a proper horse. The owner Dan O'Rourke is from Naas. That's the second horse they have with me now."
