Papa Tango Charly V Israel Champ at Worcester

Two of the star four-year-old’s from last season are set to clash at Worcester on Sunday, when Papa Tango Charly and Israel Champ, feature in the two-mile bumper at the West Midlands Course.

Papa Tango Charly was the top-priced Irish point-to-pointer through the sales ring after he was bought for £440,000 by Aidan Kennedy at the Goffs UK Aintree sale.

That followed his debut success in a four-year-old maiden at Liscarroll last March, when he was a four-length winner over a field which the market viewed very favourably, with all three of the placed horses realising six-figure sums when coming under the hammer.

Of the trio Meyer Lansky, was the first to feature for new connections, when finishing second for Jonjo O’Neill in a bumper, also at Worcester.

Papa Tango Carly is also now under the care of O’Neill and will make his English debut sporting the colours of Martin Tedham, where he will come up against Israel Champ.

That son of Milan also made a winning debut, when he won the four-year-old maiden that was won three years earlier by Samcro at Monksgrange.

Running for Ellen Doyle, he was a 12-length winner under Harley Dunne, to provide Doyle and her brother James, with their second successive victory in the race, having saddled the now Listed bumper winner, Eden Du Houx, to win the race a year earlier.

Israel Champ was sold privately to David Pipe and now runs for owners John White and Anne Underhill.

The race also features the Rules debut of Bartlemy runner-up Straw Fan Jack.
