Fury Road recovers well to land his first graded victory

Fury Road has made quiet an impression since he began his career under rules back in December 2018 and has hit the ground running this season having found victory in all of his three runs since November, which includes today's Grade 2 success at Limerick.

It looked as though the five-year-old son of Stowaway had matters under control in the Grade 2 Lyons Of Limerick Jaguar Novice Hurdle when approaching the final fence, however a wrong stride saw the gelding meet the fence wrong causing him to nearly lose his rider Davy Russell.

Russell managed to stay aboard and his mount rallied well in the closing stages to recover from his final fence error to go on and win by one-length denying the Mark Fahy-trained Well Set Up in the process.

The gelding started his career with Tipperaray handler Pat Doyle and got off the mark at the second time of asking when winning by an impressive five lengths in a four-year-old maiden at Dromahane.

Winning rider Russell told IrishRacing.com: " the ground is so testing, he would have met the last perfectly if we were racing, but on that heavy ground I got no response from him and could do nothing."

"He wasn't going forwards and wasn't coming back to me, but I knew he was well able to jump obviously. Whatever I did he was going to be wrong, but he is a talented horse and is a typical good looking Gigginstown-type horse."

"All those questions about his ideal trip will fit in eventually, but he is versatile."
