UK Point-to-Point Round Up 29th January

Irish point graduates enjoyed yet another successful weekend on the UK pointing scene, with former Irish pointers accounting for 12 of the winners across the five meetings that were held.

Some of the notable UK point winners from last weekend include Barney Dwan, Dubai Quest, Knockoutloaded and La Teur.

Cocklebarrow, Gloucestershire

Barney Dwan justified his odds-on favouritism when recording a widening 20-length victory in the ladies open for Sally Randell. The ten-year-old, placed at the Cheltenham Festival in 2017 and 2018 when in the care of Fergal O'Brien and was making his pointing debut here.

The son of Vinnie Roe started life out with Waterford handler David Kiely when running twice in points in Ireland, with his best effort being when he finished runner-up in a five-year-old maiden at Curraghmore in 2015.

Thorpe Lodge

Former Richard Cotter inmate, Dubai Quest, enjoyed success in the Restricted race at Thrope Lodge. The Son of Dubai Destination began his career in Irish points when finishing third on his debut in a six-year-old maiden at Kilfeacle in January 2019, he then got off the mark at the second time of asking when landing the six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Tallow a couple of weeks later and he ran twice more after this placing twice on both occasions.

The seven-year-old came to grief when making his UK points debut in January, but he ensured he made no mistakes on Sunday when running out a 12-length winner to beat Bonamargy for his UK handler Dale Rogers.

Higham, Suffolk

Knockedoutloaded recorded his seventh UK point-to-point victory by a distance of one-length in the Ladies open race on Sunday in the hands of 20-year-old Alexandra Knight, who recorded her first success on what was only her second ride in points.

The son of Beneficial began his career in Irish points for handler Vincent Devereux and ran several times, with his final run being his best effort in a seven-year-old geldings’ maiden when placed third at Ballingarry in 2015.

Chipley Park, Somerset

La Teur recorded his first success on his debut in UK points for handler Christopher Barber when returning four lengths clear of his rivals in his Open Maiden. The five-year-old went to the Tattersalls Ascot sales in December where Barber formed a partnership with his owner Harley Dunne, who sent him to train after going through the ring unsold.

Back in Ireland, the son of Flemensfirth started out his racing career with Liam Kenny when finishing third on his debut in a four-year-old maiden at Lismore in March 2019.
