Video Archives | Castletown-Geoghegan April 2000

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  We are starting with the 2000 videos.

The Westmeath Foxhounds point-to-point at Castletown-Geoghegan in April 2000 is the next meeting to be added.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

The opening race at the Westmeath Foxhounds point-to-point fixture, the adjacent hunt race was won in good fashion by Philip Dempsey aboard Beusheram. (Race Missing)

It was a double on the day for Philip Dempsey when winning abaoard Jannie De Vere to claim the five-year-old geldings maiden.  The son of Lord Americo stayed on gamely on the run-in to score by three lengths.

Friends Forever and Brian Hamilton combined to claim the four & five-year-old mares maiden in good style. The son of Broken Hearted was trained by John Sleator.

A fine jump at the last secured Friars Islands victory in the Open Lightweight under Jim Derwin.

It was a family victory in the winners of two contest with Wotsitooya and Denis Cullen running out easy winners of the winners of two contest for his father Christopher Cullen.

It was a dramatic conclusion to the six-year-old and upwards maiden after the long-time leader Was A Drive and Gordon Elliott ran out at the final fence which the left way for the fast finishing Hollow Field to come and grab victory on the line.  (Rider Gordon Elliott reported, there was a fence steward standing on the inside of the wing of the fence.)

Bit Of Posh provided Philip Dempsey with his third winner of the afternoon when coming in front of the the six-year-old & upwards maiden.

The concluding race on the Westmeath Foxhounds cards was won by Dr Monty under a strong drive from Jeremy Cash.
