Classic Getaway equals P2P record price at Goffs UK December P2P Sale

Thursday's new December P2P Sale at Yorton Farm produced a superb finish to Goffs UK’s 2020 sales calendar with the outstanding Irish Pointer Classic Getaway equalling the world record for the highest priced pointer sold at public auction.

Trained by Donnchadh Doyle, the 4YO Classic Getaway (Lot 7) hit the headlines following his brilliant debut P2P win at Borris House and the son of Getaway did not disappoint in the ring today with a lengthy bidding battle seeing him sold to Tom Malone and Gordon Elliott for £570,000. The price matched the world record set by Jonbon who sold at Yorton last month in the Goffs UK November P2P Sale.

Aidan Fitzgerald’s Queens River (Lot 14) was another to stand out in the ring following her debut P2P win at Boulta and her strong pedigree, being a Kayf Tara own sister to the Grade 2 winner The Long Mile from the family of Samcro. She was another to attract bids from round the ring before being sold to Kieran McManus for £330,000, becoming the highest priced P2P filly to sell in the Goffs sales ring.

A total of five horses sold for six figure sums, others were Colin Bowe’s Here Comes The Man (Lot 32) which sold to Gerry Hogan for £210,000, Margaret Mullins’ My Mate Mozzie (Lot 18) which was knocked down to Gavin Cromwell for £205,000 and James Doyle’s Tango Tara (Lot 12) which was purchased by Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls for £120,000.

Following the conclusion of the sale, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented:

"What a day! It’s fair to say that the results of today’s sale have far exceeded expectations and we would like to thank everyone who has participated in the success of this sale.

"We were delighted with the strength of the catalogue, but to equal the world record price whilst smashing the average and median achieved here last month is beyond anything that we could have imagined. This has been an incredible year that we will remember for so many different reasons.

"Once again, we would like to thank James and Jean Potter, David Futter and his team for hosting us here at Yorton Farm and Stud. There is no doubt that vendors and purchasers have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities offered at this unique location and we are delighted to finish the Goffs UK year on a high.

"We would also like to thank all of our vendors for their incredible support and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Doncaster at the end of January, which is where it all began earlier this year with a top price of £370,000."
