Stallions

Taylor backing his stallions

Dee Ex Bee will cover his first book of mares at Arctic Tack Stud in 2022, joining leading young sire Jet Away at the stud.

The pair are owned by Douglas Taylor who will be heavily supporting his stallions, buying two well-related mares at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale this week to be covered by Dee Ex Bee.

Zam Zoom, the dam of Nichols Canyon, was acquired for 65,000 guineas while Coral Garden was bought for 40,000 guineas and received an instant update with her first foal, Garden Paradise, winning the Wild Flower Stakes (Listed) at Kempton less than 24 hours later.

Nine-year-old mare Coral Garden is out of Coraline who has produced four stallions including top class National Hunt sire Martaline, Grade 1 producers Coastal Path and Reefscape. Successful sires Beat Hollow and Oasis Dream feature under the mare’s second dam.

Zam Zoom, a daughter of leading broodmare sire Dalakhani, has produced four winners headed by dual stakes winner Nichols Canyon as well as the stakes placed pair Bright Approach and Fujaira Prince.

Taylor has supported young sire Jet Away since he retired to Arctic Tack Stud and in 2020 the stallion served 288 mares, the second busiest sire in Ireland, while in 2021 he covered 279 mares.

One of those was the Fairyhouse Mares’ Novice Hurdle (Gr 1) winner Laurina who was bought for €290,000 by Taylor at the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale last year. Laurina was the most expensive National Hunt mare sold by Tattersalls Ireland last year.

“How do you expect anyone to support your stallions if you don’t yourself,” said Taylor. “I have supported my stallions and breeders since I started in this business and I will continue to do so.”

Winner of the Group 3 Henry II Stakes at Ascot, Dee Ex Bee was Group 1 placed on six occasions including when second to Masar in the English Derby and he also finished second to Stradivarius in the Ascot Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup. He will stand his first season at stud for a fee of €3,500 (fillies concession).

Jet Away’s 2022 fee is set at on application.
