Ballydesmond triumphs at Down Royal

Ballydesmond gained his second success of the season when he ran out the 10/1 winner of the C&C White Maiden Hunters Chase at Down Royal on Monday afternoon.

One of two runners in the race for Dromara trainer Caroline McCaldin, Oran McGill bided his time aboard the six-year-old as the favourite Focus Point took the field along.

However once the Derry native sent the wide-margin Kirkistown winner to the front in between the final two fences, he swiftly stamped his authority on the race and soon had the measure of the hat-trick seeking Focus Point.

At the line, the Presenting gelding had nine lengths to spare over the favourite as the field came home at wide intervals, with the mare and recent Cork runner-up True Or Fale coming through to take third, albeit some 22 lengths adrift of the runner-up with Sizing Diamond disappointing a further 12 lengths further back in fourth.
