Injured point-to-point jockey Stella McGrath is reported to have made ‘a big improvement’ in the past number of days as she continues her recovery from a fall at Glenbane point-to-point.
Stella suffered a serious head injury in the fall which occurred on Sunday 20th November, and she remains in hospital in Cork six weeks later.
Posting on the GoFundMe page which has been set-up to support Stella, Katie Dullea wrote, “I am delighted to post this update on Stella. Over the past week there has been a big improvement in Stella. She is without doubt a fighter and is tackling everything as it is thrown at her. After battling an infection, she has still managed to nod, smile, give the thumbs up, and whisper to her mother. Today (29th December) she ate for the first time and also took a few steps with an aid. She is undoubtedly facing this challenge with all her strength and hopefully she will continue to improve at this pace”.
A number of fundraisers are planned for the coming days to support Stella, with the Boulta point-to-point on New Year’s Day being run as a fundraiser for Stella and the Cork/Waterford Injured Jockeys Fund, whilst on the same day the annual Ballinadee Hunt Charity Ride will also be raising funds for Stella.
If you are unable to attend either event but would like to support Stella through her recovery, donations can still be made online through the GoFundMe page which can be accessed by clicking HERE.
