Longhouse Music crowned Champion Mare

The John Duggan – owned Longhouse Music will not only be crowned Champion Pointer but she has also claimed the Champion Mare award this season.

This award is based on ratings rather than race wins and the daughter of Gamut ran to a mark of 107 at Borris House back in December when beating Samanntom and this was enough to secure victory over Give Mylovetorose who achieved a top rating of 103.

The successful 10-year-old was one of 208 mares’ to win this season, when recording an unprecedented number of successes.

Longhouse Music began her career in the point-to-point sphere, breaking her maiden at Belclare back in 2017. Trained by Sam Curling, the mare ran 15 times this season, winning on 13 of those attempts. Remarkably she was ridden by eight different riders, although Derek O’Connor enjoyed five successes on this prolific mare.

Other mares’ to collect the award in recent years include Wilcosdiana, Maple Mons and Carrigeen Acebo.
