Aaron Sinnott riding high back in Ireland

Aaron Sinnott had partnered five point-to-point winners in Ireland prior to his success aboard the Ellen Doyle-trained Hidden Commander at Borris House on Sunday afternoon in the five-year-old geldings' maiden.

Sinnott had been connected with the Doyle's before leaving for America, where he rode multiple winners, both on the track, along with American point-to-points.

"I came back to James and Ellen when I came back from America. To be fair, they have always given me a chance, always helped me out, getting rides and bits and pieces. They have been very good to me."

"We bought a few horses off them as well to go to America with, the likes of French Light, Baltimore Bucko and Fancy Pants. French Light will run at Camden, a big jumps meeting over in America."

Working primarily with Leslie Young and Jonathan Sheppard in America, Sinnott enjoyed much success for the pair.

"I went over to Leslie Young in America, worked with her for three months. I also worked for Jonathan Sheppard as well. I actually rode a Grade 2 stakes winner for Jonathan."

"I rode three winners on the track, and seven point-to-points over there."

Sinnott went on to explain that a point-to-point in America is completely different to an Irish point-to-point, and he compares the American contests to almost the equivalent to an Irish schooling race.

"A point-to-point in America is like a schooling race over here. Over there, you would run a horse in a point-to-point to get a run into them before they head for the track, just as a prep run."

Sinnott also drew some other general comparisons between Irish and American racing which he found.

"Horses that need good ground do well over there. The ground is always very good over there."

"They go a lot quicker over there. The pace is a lot quicker, the ground is a lot quicker, it's just a different type of racing altogether."

Aaron is planning to head back to the United States in the near future, but in the meantime, he will continue to ride in Ireland between the flags.

"I'm probably going to go back now at the end of this month. I'm having trouble with my Visa at the moment, but it's currently being processed."

"I'm riding this weekend for Shane Byrne and Niall Heffernan, and I might have a four-year-old for James Doyle also at Turtulla."
