Battleoverdoyen impresses at Down Royal

Battleoverydoyen impressed on season debut when landing the Grade 2 Lough Construction Ltd Chase at Down Royal in the hands of Mark Walsh.

The son of Doyen took up the running to lead three fences from home and kept on gamely on the run-in for a six length victory over the short priced favourite Easy Game. 
 
The seven-year-old was last seen when finishing fourth in the RSA at Cheltenham in March.

The Gigginstown House owned gelding started his career between the flags when winning his point-to-point maiden at Loughanmore in  April 2017.  He was subsequently sold at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale for £235,000.
 
Winning trainer Gordon Elliott remarked afterwards; "We were going too far with him last year, he showed plenty of pace and he could go for the John  Durkan at Punchestown next."

It was a good day for trainer Gordon Elliott who had five winners on the card which also included former Irish pointers Ballyadam who claimed the Tayto Park Maiden Hurdle.
 
The former Irish pointer was last seen when winning a bumper at Downpatrick in March. He won his maiden at Portrush for handler Colin McKeever and was subsequently sold for £330,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale.
 
Sir Gerhard made his eagerly anticipated debut when taking the concluing Irish Stallion Farms EBF Pro/Am Flat Race in good style in the hands Jamie Codd.  The son of Jeremy won his point-to-point maiden at Boulta for handler Ellmarie Holden before being sold to Cheveley Park for £400,000.
