Eoin Mahon recovering in hospital after Grennan fall

Rider Eoin Mahon is recovering in hospital after he sustained a number of fractures following a fall at Grennan point-to-point on Sunday afternoon.

The Galway native parted company with his mount Leading Babe at fence two in division two of the mares’ maiden at the Co. Kilkenny venue.

Having been immediately attended to by the on-track medical team, Mahon was transferred from the course by air ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital, from where he posted an update of his condition on Facebook saying: “all ok thankfully a few fractures but all is good.”

Dr. Jennifer Pugh, IHRB Senior Medical Officer, has confirmed that Mahon is clinically stable and will remain in hospital for further observation and treatment over the coming days.

Following a lengthy delay to racing while Mahon was attended to on track, the decision was taken at 5.45pm to abandon the remainder of the Grennan card with four races still to be run.

On Saturday, Cork rider James Murphy sustained a hip injury when parting company with Struell Duke at fence one in the Kirkistown finale.

We extend our best wishes to Eoin and James and wish them both well with their recoveries.
