P2P Archive Videos | 1997

Over the summer months we have uploaded hundreds of videos from 1999-1989 to the site which can all be viewed by our members.

To find a fixture just go to ‘results’ and select the date of the meeting you wish to view or search the horse name, if we have the video the video icon will appear in green.

The next year we look at in our archive section is 1997.

1997 was the year that Enda Bolder won his seventh riders title and in doing so riding 38 winners matched the record of Bill McLernon.

The ladies title was a little more interesting with a four way tie. Lulu Olivefalk (2nd title), Lillian Doyle (4th title) Claire O’Connell & Susan Vance divided the award as each had ridden one winner a piece.

The novice event also saw a tie with three riders accepting the honours. Paul Moloney, Alan Fleming and Ron Flavin each rode nine winners to share the spoils. Dixon Varner became the Champion Hunter Chaser in the absence of former champion Elegant Lord who missed the season through injury. In the Champion Hunter Chase Dixon Varner was partnered by a rider who had never ridden a point to point winner.

A leading young amateur called Ruby Walsh first displayed his talent over the larger obstacles to steer him home three lengths clear of the Joseph O’Reilly winner Stay In Touch.

We have uploaded over 330 races from the 1997 season with some of the highlights listed below.

To find a fixture go to ‘Results’ and select the date of the meeting you wish to view OR search the Horse you wish to view and find the video link beside the relevant formline.
