PREVIEW | United (F) Carrigtwohill at Ballyvodock - Sunday
La Feline will bid to follow-up her Aghabullogue success from two weeks earlier when she lines up in the Mares Open on the card.
Race 1 – The Con Healy Memorial 5YO Mares Maiden
The newcomer PEPPARDSTOWN LADY has an eye-catching pedigree, being a half-sister to the talented chasers Mala Beach and Bonny Kate, both of whom were previous Graded winners, and with this racing having a very open look to it, she could be the one to side with here on her debut.
Of those with experience, put in her best effort when third at Ballindenisk earlier in the month, whilst Rock On Anna was an encouraging fourth in Turtulla on debut.
Race 2 – The O’Connell Group 5YO Geldings Maiden
AN MHI was sent off as the favourite for a red-hot maiden at Tattersalls in November and having travelled well throughout, he just gave way in the closing stages to finish a very encouraging fourth. The three horses that finished in front of him all sold for over 300,000 pounds each in the sales ring subsequently, and he would look to set a high standard for this.
Colonel Harry has bypassed a number of potential engagements since his luckless final-fence fall at Damma House and if he was to appear here he would be the obvious danger. John The Diva and Risky Whiskey would look next best.
Race 3 – Jerry McCarthy Shopping Centre & Jack Spratts Bar, Carrigtwohill Winner of Two
GARM COLOMBE is now two from two this season and with the benefit of race fitness following his return to action success at Turtulla recently, it should leave him as the clear selection for this.
The mare Rose Of Coolbally was not beaten far at Carrigarostig, whilst Truckers Tangle beat a subsequent winner in Jeremey Central when scoring at Moig South and is another contender alongside the maiden De Nordener.
Race 4 – Brown Island Stables William O’Brien Memorial 5YO+ Confined Maiden (Nov Riders)
Both CALLING ARC and Ta Se Rua may not have put their best foots forward when last seen in competitive action, however they do look to be the standard bearers on what they have achieved to date. Preference goes to the former after he went close in a similar contest at Boulta before Christmas.
Race 5 – Hurleys SuperValu Mares Open
LA FELINE put up an impressive performance when defeating geldings in open company at Aghahbullogue recently and she would look to face a much easier task here against a field that is largely made up of winners-grade opposition. It would be a major upset to see her colours lowered in this.
Race 6 – Norma Walsh Solicitors & Guilders Bar 6YO+ Maiden
DE NORDENER and Ahaknowyerself both finished second to Just A Dime in each of their latest outings, with the former having done so at Aghabullogue in winners company earlier this month in what was a big step forward. A reproduction of that effort could give him the edge.
Of the others, Whiskey For Jack is never usually too far away and will be in the mix once again alongside Useitorlooseit.
