Ifeoinly lands mares hunters chase

Ifeoinly bounced back to winning ways after two-placed efforts recently, and landed the Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Mares Maiden Hunter’s Chase at Cork on Easter Monday for handler Eoin McCarthy. It was regular partner, Brian Lawless who did the steering.

The eight-year-old mare by Oscar followed Larkfield Legacy for much of the three-mile contest, before taking up the running four out upsides the eventual second placed, Carrig Wells.

Larkfield Legacy was slow jumping the fourth last and lost the lead to Carrig Wells and Ifeonily who both jumped it much more fluently than the longtime leader.

Carrig Wells and Ifeonily battled it out for the lead over the third and second last, where Ifeonily jumped much the better on this occasion and picked up the running only to survive a final fence scare after ploughing through the last.

Ifeoinly ultimately had enough up her sleeve to see off a second challenge from the staying-on second Carrig Wells and she went on to win by a comfortable five lengths.

Counts Glory the even money favourite was a disappointing fourth on the day, finishing 12 ¾ lengths behind the leaders.

This season has been a fruitful campaign for Ifeonily as she has registered four point-to-point winners to her name and is currently tying for first place in the leading horse title.

Brian Lawless has partnered the mare for three of four of her wins this season for handler Eoin McCarthy, Ifeonily has provided Eoin with five winners for the season between point-to-points and hunter chases.

Winning trainer Eoin McCarthy told irishracing.com "she is a lovely tough honest mare and I'm delighted for Brendan (Walsh, from Galway) who has had a great run with her this season.”

"At this grade she is a really nice competitive mare and will stick to the hunter chase grade and will probably go back point to pointing next season.”

"We will have a look at a winners' of one hunter’s chase at Tipperary next."
