A brand new book around point-to-point racing has proven to be a popular addition to bookshelves this year.
Hot on the heels of Thrills and Spills and Flat Out, photographer Pat Healy and writer Richard Pugh introduce the riders, handlers, venues and famous horses that give Irish point-to-pointing such a unique spirit.
The true grassroots of Irish horse racing, point-to-point tracks are transformed from farmland by dedicated volunteers into temporary racetracks and this book tells the story of how the sport has developed through to today.
One of six books to be shortlisted for the Eason Sports Book of the Year in association with Ireland AM at the An Post Irish Book Awards.
Richard Forristal, Ireland Editor of the Racing Post,
praised the book in a recent review, writing:
"There is a wealth of information and insight documented in digestible format, and then there are the rolls of honour, recording an extensive array of champions since 1980.
"It makes for a wonderful potted history of a pursuit that has had its challenges lately, one that will serve as a go-to gift for its legion of enthusiasts in the countdown to Christmas."
Point-to-Point - The Heart of Irish Horse Racing is available in bookshops all around Ireland and also from online retailers.
