Whats Up Darling makes amends for Cork disappointment at Tipperary

What’s Up Darling made amends for being a beaten favourite when disappointing at Cork last month by running out the facile victor of the Millenium Surveys point-to-point bumper at Tipperary.

A Quakerstown maiden winner for John Costello in December after which he was sold £280,000, the Shirocco gelding had only managed to finish third when sent off as the short-priced favourite for a point-to-point bumper at Cork on Easter Monday on what was his debut for the Gordon Elliott yard.

The six-year-old proved to be a completely different proposition at the second time of asking in the bumper division, as Harry Swan was full of confidence.

Sitting in fourth passing the two-furlong pole as Oliver McKiernan’s well-backed Syracus Du Houx made his move for home, Swan never had to get too serious aboard the favourite as he swept to the front and immediately put the race to bed to win the 15-runner contest by six lengths.

That denied John Barry a double in the two point-to-point bumpers after his success aboard Annalecka 30 minutes earlier, but it was creditable effort from his mount nonetheless who was just under four lengths clear of Minella Rescue, who completed the placings in third for Mary Carpenter and Terence O’Brien.

The victory of What’s Up Darling completed a double on the card for the absent Elliott.
