Jeroboam Machin remains unbeaten with Fairyhouse victory

The point-to-point bumper at Fairyhouse had the look of a two-horse race on paper and that is how it played on the track as Jeroboam Machin and D B Cooper pulled clear of their rivals.

It was D B Cooper who was sent off at the top of the market and he was a warm odds-on favourite to provide his trainer Gordon Elliott with a double on the card as he had earlier enjoyed success with fellow pointing recruit Better Days Ahead.

D B Cooper had started his career on a winning note with a Ballyknock success for Sean Doyle in April, but was another first-time-out four-year-old maiden winner that had his measure.

Jeroboam Machin travelled well into the final two furlongs under Patrick Mullins, and once striking the front with a furlong and a half to race, he had the measure of the Harry Swan-ridden favourite to remain unbeaten by four and a quarter lengths.

Dual point winner Raceview Road was a further ten lengths adrift in third for the in-form Ger Quinn and Philip McBurney outfit.

Winning trainer Emmet Mullins indicated that he would likely send the successful French bred son of Joshua Tree for a maiden hurdle over Christmas having been recommended the chestnut by Cormac Doyle after he had won a four-year-old auction maiden at Durrow in March.
