Boss Robin makes all to land Thurles hunter chase

Boss Robin backed up his recent Comea victory by making all of the running in the Racing Again March 16th maiden hunter chase at Thurles on Tuesday afternoon.

Employing the same tactics which had worked so well when he inflicted a two-length defeat on Joy Of Life on his first step into open at his trainer John Gleeson’s local Scarteen fixture, Ray Barron’s mount jumped from fence to fence.

Such was the zest that the eight-year-old was jumping with, he was able to enjoy an uncontested lead at the head of affairs.

Last month’s Belharbour winner Ryehill did emerge from the pack, but he was the only one to land a challenging blow as those in behind struggled to get on terms.

Ross O’Sullivan’s charge did jump the last upsides holding every chance, but Boss Robin’s superior experience proved key as he was able pick up again on the run-in to prevail by half-a-length.

The favourite Global Assembly plugged on to take third, albeit some 17 lengths adrift of the front pair.

“When he is out on front and when he is on his own, he can fly his fences, but when he is in behind he can lose his confidence,” Barron said.

“He won his point-to-point the last day making all, so we said we would try that again and he did it well.

“He is by Mahler, so 3m1f on heavy ground is his thing.”
