The son of handler Gary McGill, it was on a horse trained by his father that Derry native Dara made his point-to-point debut when Justwest ran at Broughshane in May 2021. It was Warren Ewing that supplied Dara with his first career win when Bold Reaction took the four-year-old maiden at Moira in October 2021. A graduate of pony racing, he is a brother of fellow point-to-point rider Oran McGill, and in 2023 he became the first northern-based rider to win the Under-21 title since it was introduced as an under-21 award in 1991.
