Video Archives | Ballon February 2001

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding videos to some of the old point-to-point fixtures that we have on file.  The next year we are adding videos from is the 2001 season.

The second fixture we are adding is Carlow Farmers point-to-point at Ballon in February 2001.

Below gives a brief re-cap of what happened on the day.

The opening race at the Carlow Farmers point-to-point fixture at Ballon was won by Orlando Magic in the hands of Caroline Hutchinson.

The six-year-old geldings maiden saw an impressive winner in the form of Killowenly Boy under the guidance of Edgar Byrne.

Butsy’s Honour stayed on well under a strong drive from Cossie McGivern to claim the six-year-old geldings maiden.

Willie Codd and Breezy River stayed on gamely from the last to take the six-year-old mares maiden by five lengths.

Owherdidigorong made easy work of it to claim division two of the six-year-old mares maiden in the hands of Aidan Fitzgerald.

The open lightweight was won in good style by Glenahary Rose and Shane McCullagh who is a brother of top flat jockey Niall McCullagh.

Forgeside Express and Pat Cloke registered another victory when coming home in front over Polaris Flame in the mares open lightweight by one length.

The mares open lightweight produced a fine winner in the form of Tribal Warrior who stayed on best in the closing stages under strong drive from trainer and rider John Quinn.

Commanche Peak and Denis Cullen ran out an eight-length winner when coming home in front in the opening division of the seven and eight-year-old geldings maiden.

The concluding division of the seven and eight-year-old geldings maiden saw an impressive performance from Wilke Thorpe who won by a distance in the hands J D Moore.
