Shantou Show cruises to victory at Downpatrick

It was a day to remember for Antrim native Cara McGoldrick who registered her first winner on the track when guiding the Sean McParlan trained Shantou Show to victory in the Boardsmill Sires maiden hunters chase at Downpatrick on Sunday.

McGoldrick who gave her mount a patient ride, had him settled in rear for most of race before the pair made smooth progress on the inner to join the leaders approaching three fences from home.

They took up the running approaching the last and in a matter strides had pulled clear of the remainder of the field to score by an impressive 15 lengths.

Shantou Magic was last seen when winning his maiden at Kirkistown in February, this was only his third career start to date having finished fifth in his maiden at Cragmore in January.

It has been quite the season for McGoldrick who only registered her first point-to-point victory at Dromahane in December 2022 aboard her own Woodbrook Boy.

The twenty-one-year-old is based with James and Ellen Doyle four days of the week and then is free lance up the north for the remainder.
