Swing Davis Tops Strong Renewal Of Goffs Punchestown Sale

A quality catalogue for the 2024 Goffs Punchestown Sale drew a huge crowd of buyers to the winners’ enclosure after racing this evening with the resulting trade producing a strong set of figures, with 18 Lots sold at a clearance rate of 82%, an average price of €159,889 and median of €140,000.

Swing Davis (Lot 5), a four-year-old daughter of No Risk At All from the family of the great Klairon Davis, looked a very high class prospect when winning impressively on Saturday at Loughanmore, and she took top billing when selling from Denis Murphy’s Ballyboy Stables to Mags O’Toole for €320,000.

Opening the sale in style was the first Lot into the ring, Familiar Dreams (Lot 1), winner of the Grade 3 Mares Bumper on Wednesday at Punchestown for trainer Anthony McCann and the All Four Counties Syndicate. The five-year-old daughter of Postponed, who also counts a Listed mares bumper at Fairyhouse’s Easter meeting among her four wins, was sold to Aidan O’Ryan and Gordon Elliott for €310,000.  Another to make that price, and also bound for the Gordon Elliott yard, was the four-year-old Famous Name gelding Ma Jacks Hill (Lot 9) from Ciaran Fennessy’s Glenabo Stables, a very convincing winner on Sunday at Dromahane.

The final Lot of the night were the silks worn by Rachael Blackmore onboard the sale’s most famous graduate Honeysuckle in all of her many Grade 1 triumphs.  Generously donated by Kenny Alexander in aid of ChildVision’s new indoor equine therapeutic centre named in memory of Jack de Bromhead, the colours sold for €105,000 to Peter Molony who was bidding on behalf of a syndicate of Friends of the Irish National Stud where the framed colours will be displayed.

Reflecting on another successful renewal of the Punchestown Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“Tonight’s Punchestown Sale was the usual lively affair at what is the original festival sale, with some mighty prices and a huge crowd of active participants.

Last year’s record-breaking sale was always going to be hard to match but 2024 compares very favorably with previous renewals and we have no doubt that there are some real stars amongst the graduates.

As ever we are indebted to our vendors for throwing their unqualified support behind another Goffs Point-to-Point sale and we look forward to Doncaster in a few weeks for the end of season finale which is the Spring Sale.

Finally, we were so pleased to be able to assist the Jack de Bromhead Equine Centre for ChildVision by selling Honeysuckle’s racing silks at the end of the evening.  It was wonderful to see such interest, not surprising given her legendary status. They were sold to Peter Molony for €105,000 who was bidding on behalf of Friends of the Irish National Stud”.
