Barry O'Neill takes the 2019 Champion Rider title

2019 will go down as a year to remember for Barry O'Neill. The Wexford native recorded his third Champion rider title in as many years, won the Eastern Title, rode his 500th winner and became a father all within the space of 12 months.

The Champion Rider Title was secured with 66 wins from Rob James' 43, while third place went to Derek O'Connor with 39 winners and fourth went to Jamie Codd who recorded 37.

Throughout the season O'Neill rode five trebles and multiple four-year-old winners.

Including the impressive Liscarroll debut winner Papa Tango Charly who was the most expensive pointer sold this season when realising £440,000.

O'Neill's association with Kiltealy handler Colin Bowe has brought about a staggering 37 winners throughout the season.

Winners including the likes of Killer Clown (£135,000), Telmesomehtinggirl (£150,000), Giants Table (£160,000) and the aforementioned Papa Tango Charly.

The two-time Novice Champion also enjoyed plenty of success on the track when winning three hunter chases from three rides on Ucello Conti this year.

Now the fourth most winning rider in the sport, O'Neill has come a long way since he recorded his first winner aboard Viking Rebel at Horse and Jockey in 2007.
