KILLEAGH (H) at Carrigarostig on 19th Jan 2020

First Race: 12:30

Number of Entries: 81

Admission: €10 including a race card.

The Killeagh point-to-point, which has typically been held at Knockane for the last 35 years, have moved venue this year and will be unveiling their new track at Carrigarostig this Sunday, kindly given to them by landowner Kieran Mariga.

It is one of the most accessible point-to-points in Ireland, with its location only 1.5 miles off the N25 (Cork/Waterford Road) with an excellent road network leading from all corners of the country.

Patrick Mulcahy PRO for the committee was kind enough to inform us on Thursday how preparations at the new venue were going:

Preparations are going well; we are delighted with the new venue and are looking forward to a good days racing. It is a great viewing track with the main viewing location being in the center of the track, people will also be able to view the racing from “the rock” which is a viewing point located on the outside of the track.

The Turf Club will be down in the morning for the inspection, the weather has been mixed, but it is forecasted to be dry for the weekend so hopefully it will be.

“We will have our local caterer’s Kearney’s onsite providing hot food and the local camogie club will have tea, coffee, soup, and sandwiches on offer in the hospitality tent. We will also have kids face painting available on the day.”

Ballinagore (H) at Ballycrystal on 19th Jan 2020

First Race: 12:30

Number of Entries: 77

Admission: €10

The Ballinagore Hunt are new to the point-to-point scene and this weekend will be their first time hosting a point-to-point. Ballycrystal track is also another new track being introduced to the circuit for the first time, with the land kindly been given to the hunt by well-known Wexford handler Matthew Flynn O’Connor and his family.

We caught up with the Ballingore's hunt secretary Rose, who tells us how preparations are going for Sunday:

Everybody is really looking forward to the racing on Sunday,  we would encourage people to come early, as we will have the local Ballinagore pipe band opening the point-to-point as it is our first fixture, so that will be great for people to come and watch.

“All the fences are going up tomorrow and we will have local food caterers there on the day, some of which include, Chester’s chip van and the coffee express van. Schooling will take place at the track on the Tuesday after the point-to-point.

“The weather is forecasted to be good on Sunday and we have received a health entry, so hopefully people will come along on the day to support us.”
