Weekend Preview: Oldcastle
The Ballymacad Foxhounds will play host to the second meeting of the Autumn Season at Oldcastle.
R1 – Tattersalls Ireland 4YO Mares Maiden
Having finished fourth at Wexford in a maiden hurdle late last month, Carlotalin has the benefit of a recent competitive outing to her name as she will take on a field of newcomers.
R2 – Triermore Stud 4YO Geldings Maiden
The Westerner gelding SLIEVEGAR was sent off as the favourite for his introduction back in the Spring at Tinahely, and whilst he was unable to converter that into a winning debut, it was a respectable effort. That leaves him as the standard bearer in this. Stable companions Tim Pat and Dorans Bridge have both also got among the placings, however they were beaten some way and will need to have improved.
R3 - Respa Beds & Olive Traynors Interior Design 5YO Mares Maiden
A half-sister of the 140-rated chaser Merry King, CALL ME MERRY made a more than respectable debut when finishing fourth in a four-year-old mares maiden at Dromahane. She has not been seen in action since May 2019, however if primed for this, she may be have the edge. Cloneyhurke Maid has more recent form having finished fourth at Borris House back in March in what was a competitive hunt race, whilst Navy Girl is another open to improvement.
R4 – BD Flood & Sons Limited 5YO Geldings Maiden
A close second on good ground at Rathcannon in Spring 2019, MONTY GUIRY ran very respectively at Portrush in what proved to be a red-hot maiden won by subsequent bumper scorer Ballyadam. Although he has not been seen since, he has some strong form in the book and would look the likely standard bearer. Colin Bowe has a number of horses engaged here that were knocking on the door throughout last season such as Pay The Piper and Tommys Oscar who are not far from getting their heads in front, with Easter In Milan another that cannot be discounted.
R5 – McConnell Flynn O’Connell Veterinary Surgeons, Oldcastle Co-op Winners of One - Novice Riders
LOWTOWN BOY (pictured above) got the better of three subsequent winners when getting off the mark at Kirkistown ten months ago and with that form behind him he would seem to set the benchmark in this. Dento Des Obeaux has been transformed since a change in tactics to allow him race from the front, and last seasons Kirkistown winner has switched yards since being seen chasing home the capable Double Smart at Tyrella.
R6 – Allied Recycling 6YO & Upwards Maiden
DIEGOS WAY let down his supporters at Punchestown in February when sent off as an odds-on favourite. He had looked set to open his account at Knockmullen House earlier that same month and is clearly capable of putting in a winning performance. There are plenty of horses capable of getting involved here including Reinvent, Airdrigh, Cappajune Lady, Jackie Daniels, Michaels Pick and Slieve Donard.
