Oldcastle to kickstart enhanced autumn season in September

The 2021 autumn campaign will begin at Oldcastle on Saturday September 25, as it features as one of 34 fixtures that the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee have confirmed will take place in the pre-Christmas campaign.

Owing to the loss of point-to-point racing throughout much of last spring, an enhanced programme of fixtures has been scheduled for this autumn with a number of hunt committees who have lost their spring fixtures having been accommodated.

Oldcastle, Monksgrange and Curraghmore who all held additional autumn fixtures last year owing to the initial Covid interruption remain on the pre-Christmas programme having lost their spring fixtures again earlier this year, whilst they are joined by spring regulars Quakerstown and Kildorrery.

The former traditionally hosts a popular Easter Sunday fixture but will now race on Sunday November 14, whilst a week later Kildorrery hosts a first autumn fixture away from its traditional February date on Sunday November 21.

Of the other notable changes, the Meath & Tara fixture on Sunday October 24 will take place at Tattersalls for the second year having previously been held at Dowth Hall, Kinsale moves from an early December date last year to October 30, whilst the Westmeath & Longford fixture at Corbeagh House returns to the calendar following a three-year absence.

It will feature as one of three fixtures on Sunday December 12 to bring the autumn campaign to a close alongside Boulta and Borris House, with the latter returning to it’s more traditional date on the final weekend of the autumn season having run in late November last year.

The full fixture list is available here.
