Mandatory Mouth Guards for all NH & P2P Racing

Mouth guards will be made mandatory for all National Hunt & Point to Point racing from June 6th 2022.

Custom-fitted Mouth Guards are mandatory for all Riders while riding in any race under I.N.H.S. Rules (including Point to Point Steeplechases) unless a prior exemption has been granted by the IHRB Senior Medical Officer.

Riders must be in possession of a Mouth Guard on mounting and must have it in use prior to the start of any race. Mouth Guards may be removed on pulling up.

A rider who fails to comply with the foregoing shall be reported to the Stewards and dealt with under Rule 14 (i).
Mouthguards must be:

individually designed,
custom fitted,
at least 4mm thick and,
made in a dental office or a professional laboratory.

Stock mouth guards or boil and bite mouth guards available to buy off the shelf are not accepted for use.
You are advised to purchase TWO mouthguards in the event that one gets lost, or you forget to bring it to the races.

Please note if you are found not to have a mouthguard on any given day you will NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE, so having a second mouthguard in your racing bag or car would be advised.
