Cause For Comment takes Downpatrick Hunters Chase

Cause For Comment who finished second in this race last year, went one better when running out a six-length winner of the Boardsmill Sires maiden Hunters Chase at Downpatrick for trainer Sonny Carey.

The six-year-old who carried the colours of Jackie Mullins was guided to victory by her son Patrick Mullins.

The son of Cokoriko always looked in command and kept on well on the run-in to deny the David Christie trained West Of Idaho by six lengths.

It was a special day for trainer Carey as it was his first career double having been successful earlier on the card with Better Times landing the Kevin Ross Bids 110 Series Handicap Hurdle.

Winning trainer Sonny Carey said afterwards: ‘I think he is a much better horse this year, he was only five taking on much older hunter chasers, but it has stood to him. He has improved a lot, and it was a good race for a maiden hunter’s chase.’

‘He was idling a little bit, but we had a good man on his back, so we were ok! I am delighted for the owners, Willie, Jackie and Paddy they have been very good to me.’

‘I don’t know where we will go next, I will leave that for the jockey to decide.’
